Nicole Maloof Twomey - Contemporary Artist
Nicole Maloof Twomey is a Washington, DC based artist and MFA graduate from American University. Twomey was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was four years old; by working with hard candy, and medical supplies, along with plaster, paint, and resin, she creates striking artworks that are humorous, ironic, childlike, and disturbing simultaneously.
Twomey is the Associate Director at HEMPHILL Artworks in Washington, DC; she is also an artist at Crestworth Art Studios. She has participated in exhibitions with Transformer, Touchstone Gallery and the Washington Studio School in Washington, DC, The Stamp Gallery at The University of Maryland, Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA and Hera Gallery in Wakefield, RI among others. Her large free standing sculpture, Self Portrait: 19 years and 112 days, 2,335 Autosoft 90 Infusion Sets and counting, was on view at Touchstone Gallery in downtown Washington, DC from January 12, 2024 - February 19, 2024 and was reviewed by Mark Jenkins for The Washington Post. She was also included in the NYC Affordable Art Fair in March 2024 with Treat Gallery and Midwest Nice. Twomey has an upcoming solo exhibition at Glen Echo in March 2026.
